The 5-storey, 127 bedroom hotel built by McGee is located on part of an old land-fill site and is constructed on piled foundations with a suspended reinforced concrete ground floor slab and vented sub-floor void to provide gas protection. The superstructure is of concrete cross-wall construction over an in-situ concrete transfer slab at first floor.
Detailed ground-modelling and cut-and-fill analysis was undertaken to optimise the building and car-park levels, and it was necessary to divert an existing deep sewer running across the site of the proposed new building.
