Rox Brighton taking shape….

The former Astoria cinema site in Brighton is being transformed with the construction of a striking new mixed use development designed by Cove Burgess Architects.

Close to the Royal Pavilion and historic Brighton Pier, Ktesius acquired the site after the Grade 2 listed building had been left vacant for 20 years. Built in 1933 in a prominent art-deco style, the Astoria was designed by Edward Albert Stone, who also designed the Astorias in Brixton, Streatham, Finsbury Park, Charing Cross Road and Old Kent Road.

Brighton is considered to be one of the most vibrant cities in the UK and with a mix of shops, offices, cafés and community space, the development will bring even more vitality to the area. The Rox is located right in the heart of Brighton, just a stone’s throw away from the Historic Pier and seafront.

The 7 storey building provides office space also as well as 70 one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments. Manhire Associates first looked at proposals for the development in April 2018 optimizing the frame design as well as developing Enabling Works proposals utilizing the existing basement wall construction and limiting the extent of contiguous piling to just one elevation.

Henry Construction are progressing well on site with the building ‘topping out’ later in September.
