Powerday PLC opened the recycling facility in 2007, offering a broad range of recycling solutions for industry, local authorities and private individuals. The facility extends over 7.7 acres on the Gateway Industrial Site, Willesden next to the Grand Union Canal.
The buildings are steel frame portals supported on piled foundations. The surface water drainage system was designed to limit the outfall into the Grand Union Canal with a large shallow attenuation tank, which was subject to Environment Agency Approval. The development comprises 2 large warehouses, extending over 2000m² and 7100m², together with a 450m2 office building.
Ground conditions were variable, with a combination of ground improvement and slab jointing carefully designed to result in an economic pavement design.
